The discussion and workshop at “Goddess and the Moon” in
Nashville was well received, and enjoyed by those who attended. They even took
up gradituity collection afterwards; too help us out on expenses, which was
most welcome. We met some really wonderful folks there, Tish Owen, a wonderful
person is the store owner who is also an author and is probably the most
well-know psychic in Nashville (there was an article about her in the Nashville
“Who’s Who” type magazine) numbers among her clientele, Reba MacGynter, Trisha
Yearwood, and Ann Rice. Lisa one the lovely ladies that work for Tish took some
picture of us after the discussion, and Mary Hawk & Silverfox two of the
wonderful folks who attended the workshop. Silverfox even acted as guide,
giving the honor of following him through a short-cut through the city and
through the confusing mess of the 3 interstates that flow together, guiding us
out of the city and out onto 40 east where we could continue on with the 3 hour
drive to Knoxville. Tired after a long day the 3 hour drive seemed to get
longer about 70 miles out from Knoxville because of all of the “interstate
closed ahead” signs we kept seeing. We were most concerned, as it seemed to be
closed very close to our scheduled exit to out Hotel. Thankfully it wasn’t
closed before we found our exit and we got checked in to our room very tired
around midnight.
We very much enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of Trish as
well as all of the great folks we met while hanging out there in the coolness
of the AC. Annwn made some more friends as doggy ambassador and had a playmate
there for awhile in the form of a sweet young lady of about 6 or 7. After the
discussion, Tish and Annwn got into a wrestling match.. I think Annwn may have
won.. butTish sure held her own, (though
I think she may not have come away from the ordeal completely unscathed.. (I
saw the red marks on her arms from tooth & claw.. ) But she enjoyed the
battle as much as Annwn. We are very much looking forward to seeing everyone
there again when time and finances permit, and highly recommend that anyone
stop by and say howdy to Tish when there find themselves in the area.
Today I will be meeting with “The Sisterhood is Powerful”
group here in Knoxville, of whom we are the guests of here in this Hotel.
Well we have safely arrived in Nashville TN and after some confusion
due to some new road construction that had been done since our maping
program was created.. (Exit 89 no longer exists by the way..) We found
our Hotel and got checked in OK. Annwn is peacefully snoozing away in
the AC dreaming of chasing birds back home. It has been many years
since I had stayed at a motel and this is the first Hotel either of us
have stayed in.. quite a fancy lay-out.. I guess I will spend the rest
of teh day preparing for the workshop tomorrow, and after that.. it is
off to Knoxville to another Inn and awother workshop on Saturday.
Annwn has been great with riding and with everyone. He even nearly had
a sparrow land on his nose this morning. So he has been making friends
along the way too.

Have you noticed that when the price of oil goes up a dollar per
barrel, gasoline goes up 20 cents per gallon? Well just how many
gallons are in a "barrel" anyway?? At the way the price jumps one would
think that those oil "barrels" were quite small. I decided to look this
up this morning in the wikipediia and found;
Oil barrel -
The standard barrel of crude oil or other petroleum product (abbreviated bbl) is 42 US gallons (34.972 Imperial gallons or 158.987 L). This measurement originated in the early Pennsylvaniaoil fields, and permitted both British and American merchants to refer to the same unit, based on the old English wine measure, the tierce.
Earlier, another size of whiskey barrel was the most common size; this was the 40 USgallons (33.3 impgal/151.4 L)
barrel for proof spirits, which was of the same volume as 5 US bushels.
However, by 1866 the oil barrel was standardized at 42 US gallons.
Oil has not actually been shipped in barrels [4] since the introduction of oil tankers,
but the 42-US-gallon size is still used as a unit for measurement,
pricing, and in tax and regulatory codes. Each barrel is refined into
about 19½ gallons of gasoline, the rest becoming other products such as jet fuel and heating oil.[1]
The current standard volume for barrels for chemicals and food is 55 USgallons (46 impgal/208 L).
OK
there are 19 1/2 gallons of gasoline per barrel. one dollar divided by
19.5 = $0.05128 Thats about a nickle per gallon of gasoline. Oil piices
have been dropping this week, yet gaoline prices have been going UP!
Humm.. supply & demand?? Gasoline here went up 30 cents per gallon
in about a week, yet oil prices have dropped $10 per barrel.. Does that
make sense in a FREE trade supply & demand economy?? We keep
hearing that gasoline is in short supply, yet has anyone seen any gas
rationing or any stations that are OUT of gasoline?? I have not heard
of any gasoline stations that are having trouble getting plenty of
gasoline, in fact whjen talking to gas station owners who talk to teh
truckers who bring in the fuel who KNOW what the supplies are where
they get it it and THEY talk to others and so on down the line.. that
tthere is PLENTY of gasoline!
Lets get back to out 5 cents per
gallon of gas per dollar per barrel.. This week, Oil has dropped $10
per barrel.. so gas should drop correspondingly.. that would be 50
cents per gallon.. but instead.. gas goes UP yet another 10 cents this
week. They SAY it takes a while for the "trickle--down" OK but WHY
pray tale does it NOT take time for an INCREASE to be felt?? Oil goes
up a dollar and that SAME DAY GAS GOES UP 10 OR 15 CENTS Oil goes down
a dollar and gas keeps going UP.
After
a week's correspondence consisting of emails and phone conversations
with the "coordinator" of a particular TN meet-up group, I finally
decided that it simply was not worth my time and effort to appear
before them. The situation was like this. First of all, I would be
traveling across three states, paying all travel expenses and
accomodations out of my pocket without any form of compensation or aid
recieved from this group. Secondly, even though I would be promoting my
book, "A Handbook For Wiccan Clergy" I was NOT allowed to mention
Wicca. Thirdlly I was expected to speak for 2 hours on a very narrowly
defined and extremely limited portion of the topic, which would be upon
defining "What Are Pagan Clergy". Now perhaps I am wrong, but is it not
the guest speaker's perogative to present a topic in a manner that he
or she chooses? Attempts to explain the need for latitude ran into a
stone wall. In fact, during those correspondences, I ran into the
phenomenon of a college professor trying to explain ideas and concepts
to a kindergarten level, narrowly focused individual. Some people, just
simply are not ready or capable of accepting ideas and concepts beyond
their limited capacity to comprehend. Indeed most teens I have spoken
with are a great deal better able to accept ideas and concepts which
encompass a much broader scope than they are familiar with. How can one
adequately define what Pagan Clergy are when one is forbidden to even
mention, let alone even briefly touch upon large aspects of the role
and the nitch Pagan Clergy fill within society? This is like someone
trying to define an elephant using only the color, or someone doing a
discussion explainging what a CSI is without beiling allowed to
mention "crime" or "criminal activity," or anything to do with
"investigation!" Her demands were completely ludicrus, and apparently
this is a field in which she is completely ignorant of. But I guess it
just takes all kinds..
I was looking forward to speaking with
this group, but I had people waiting in line for me to make an
appearance. So I will be in Nashville appearing at "Goddess and the
Moon" instead of meeting with this Pagan Meet-up group in Knoxville.
